Established in 1940 by Sam Smith, Sam Sowalsky, and Jack Sloat, The Crown has been a cornerstone of the Hartford Jewish community for over 7 decades. In 2009, the third generation of family ownership sold the Crown to Marc Bokoff, who along with his family have a long history of family grocery store ownership. The Crown continues to be a family owned and operated business where we take great pride in providing our customers with only the best value and quality Kosher food products available. In addition our exceptional level of customer service has been our trademark for over a seventy years.
The Crown has come to be known as “The Good Food Store.” We maintain a large selection of fresh produce, fresh kosher meats (including Glatt Kosher), poultry and fish as well as conventional and hard to find groceries. We also boast the best gourmet take-out and catering services in the area. Freshly baked breads and delicious desserts complete our mouthwatering repertoire. As you view our website, please visit all of our departments and you'll see why we have become the destination for so many from all over New England.
The Crown Market adheres to the strictest standards of Kashrut. Our Mashgiach is Rabbi Marshall Press of The Greater Hartford Kashrut Group. Rabbi Press supervises the Crown's Meat, Deli, Bakery, Fish Catering and Crown To Go departments.
Rabbi Yitzchok Adler of the Hartford Kashrut Commission (HKC) supervises our Glatt Kosher Meat Department and with the endorsement of the HKC our bakery has dual certification from both Rabbis Press and Adler.
