Your Questions, Answered

  • Kosher, as an English word, is understood to mean proper or acceptable. But within Jewish Tradition, kosher laws outline principles of living through origins of the Bible, specificly the Talmud and other codes. These rules help maintain a healthy and holy lifestyle.

  • The basic categories include pork, shellfish, and insects. More specific restrictions dictate certain animal cuts, as well as meat and fowl being slaughtered in a respectful, humane manner. Dairy and meat cannot be manufactured or consumed together.

  • Kosher supervision is performed by a mashgiach to oversee the day to day functions of a kosher establishment to ensure the food complies with Jewish dietary laws, or kashrut.

At Crown Market, we always have at least two mashgiachs on site, reviewing everything from grocery inventory, kitchens, food prep, and more to maintain Kosher standards.

  • At Crown Market, any food that is prepared by our kitchen or deli is kosher. Upon request, we can wrap these items in packaging with kosher certified tape, provided by the Hartford Kashrut Commission to serve as a visual marker.

Our products are also labelled throughout the store to signify if they are kosher, as well as if they have been prepared in dairy or meat facilities.

If you are unsure about the status of any of our goods, please do not hesitate to ask any of our employees!
